Voice to Dream with Alessandro Baricco

Unexplored, forgotten, never realised or followed: the universe of our dreams is a personal space, simultaneously unique and shared. With the intention of sketching a panorama that describes dreams, beginning from individually expressed human experiences in the form of novels, science, music and art, ONIRO Lab has conceived Voice to Dream, a multiform editorial project that invites us to come face to face with various visions from the world of dreams in our culture, through a series of prominent events.

The first in this series of events starred the Italian writer Alessandro Baricco, invited to present “The Dream in Literature”.

The writer took the audience on a journey through the words of great authors of world literature, analysing texts and passages from some of the volumes of the Biblioteca del Sogno (Library of Dreams), the first project realised by the ONIRO Group’s creative hub. On stage were the actual books that formed the core of this unusual library, that investigates the dream dimension from various perspectives through more than 250 volumes.

The staging also included a reference to another ONIRO Lab project: Dreamwall. The installation, created in the company’s headquarters, consists of wall-mounted LED screens displaying employees who are expressing their hopes and dreams. The project was disseminated on the occasion of the Voice to Dream event, inviting all the participants to anonymously share their own secret dream.

The event was held in the world’s smallest opera house, Teatro Belloni, chosen for its surreal and intimate atmosphere, but also for its connection with classical music. To inaugurate the evening, the young and talented pianist Federica Tremolada entertained the audience playing pieces by Debussy. This composer was chosen for the dreamlike atmosphere his music creates.
